Responsible drinking The crucial impact of negative behaviour associated with alcohol consumption has been highlighted in the findings of a research study commissioned by the Department of Trade and Industry (dti) into the socio-economic impact of liquor advertising. It is gratifying to observe that the document has acknowledged a strong compliance on the part of industry with existing codes of conduct and that self-regulation is being applied with ‘vigour’. It is also gratifying to note that the research showed that there is no causal link between alcohol abuse and advertising.
