Nederburg pleases more palates
Contrary to some reports that demand for South African wines in the UK is declining, Nederburg continues to build volumes in this market.
Not only does the South African wine category continue to deliver growth in the UK, but the brand’s performance is well in line with the most recent figures released by the SA Wine Industry Information Systems (SAWIS). These show a year-on-year growth in South African wines sales for the 12 months to March of 32%.
Says Nederburg’s global marketing manager Rudolph du Toit “While it is true that the UK is witnessing a contraction in consumer spend that is forcing shoppers to become considerably more budget-conscious, wine brands representing good value continue to appeal. The entire South African wine category is climbing and Nederburg is no exception.”
He added that positive media reviews in mainstream media, as well as in wine publications also helped to underscore Nederburg’s credentials. The winery’s 2008 Manor House Sauvignon Blanc, for example, has been awarded a score of 87 points in the latest Wine Enthusiast Advance Wine Buying Guide, where it was described as “glamorous”, “lively” and “crisp” and as having “soft aromas of gooseberry and fresh fruit” and integrated flavours with “peach and spicy spin.” Platter’s South African Wine Guide has praised the wine’s intensity and given it a four-star rating.
