Our Departments:

The Corporate Development area consists of the HR, Legal, Corporate Affairs, BBBEE, Strategic Planning & Development departments.
The Human Resources department and their support systems are responsible for personnel sourcing and hiring, skills development, performance and career tracking, employee benefits and compliance with associated government regulations.
The Corporate Affairs department’s primary function is to promote and protect the corporate brand. Communication, Social Responsibility, Functions & Events and Stakeholder Relations are core functions of Corporate Affairs.
The Legal department is responsible for all legal related matters in the company, including: the filing and protection of trade marks; vetting and drafting of agreements; ensuring compliance with all legislation affecting the business; representation of the company at industry forums; management of all litigation; and performing of company secretarial duties.
The Strategic Planning & Development Department is responsible for driving strategic planning & development, including competitive intelligence across Distell’s various business units.
The BBBEE Strategy Department is responsible for ensuring that Distell achieves its long term transformation objectives. The primary focus of the team is on Enterprise Development, Socio Economic Development, Preferential Procurement, Skills Development and Employment Equity.

The Marketing team is made up of a diverse group of professionals whose job it is to nurture and grow the company’s brands. They contribute expertise in the areas of market intelligence, market definition & segmentation, strategy formulation, brand positioning, brand communication, innovation, product development, communication channel planning, consumer promotion management and trade channel management.

The Sales department’s main function is to optimise the sales of our brands by following the sales strategies and plans in support of the corporate and segment objectives. Besides maintaining current trade relationships, the sales staff need to be flexible to adapt to the market’s ever-changing demands. This is supported by ongoing sales and merchandise training.

The Finance department of Distell is a combination of centralised and decentralised services. The head office function consists of the following sub functions: Corporate Finance, Planning & Control and Internal Audit. The Corporate Finance function includes statuary reporting, management of debtors, tax and treasury management as well as the formulation of policies and procedures.
The Planning and Control function is responsible for the maintenance of costing models, budgeting and management reporting functions within Distell. The Internal Audit function plays a vital role in ensuring the governance of operational as well as financial procedures.
The decentralised services are concerned mainly with the recording and reporting of transactions on the operational level of Distell. The management of creditors and working capital are also decentralised.

Engineering / Technical Services Division consists of a group of highly trained engineers, project managers, technicians and support staff who all provide a range of cost-effective solutions and specialist services in a wide range of disciplines to the Distell business. These services include the manufacturing and commissioning of change parts when new products are introduced on production lines, major machine refurbishments and overhauls, and assistance with maintenance of equipment on various sites.

Logistics is that part of the Supply Chain process that plans, implements and controls the efficient flow and storage of goods, services and related information from the point-of-origin to the point-of-consumption in order to meet customer requirements.

The strategic purpose of Quality Management & Research is to provide and inspire quality management and research across the value chain to meet and exceed consumer expectations. This department includes Quality Management, New Product Development, Packaging and Research.

The main objective of Information Technology, as a service department, is to enable business, and to support and add value to the business processes of Distell.

The Primary Production department is responsible for producing the world-renowned products which have won Distell numerous awards such as the International Distiller of the Year 2007 competition. Our Primary Production department produces our wines, spirits and RTDs or ready-to-drink products. The process involves receiving the raw materials in the form of grapes for wines and spirits and apple concentrate for our ciders such as Hunter’s and Savanna, processing and distilling the raw materials, and the maturing the product where necessary. The Primary Production process reaches the end of its cycle when the product is ready for bottling, bar one or two exceptions and take place on the bottling line.

The Secondary Production department is responsible for receiving the processed raw materials from the Primary Production department, and packaging the product in a format that consumers are accustomed to receiving our products in. This process involves bottling, adding closures and labelling the product, as well as packaging for final distribution.

The Distribution department is responsible for receiving the final bottled product from the Secondary Production department, for distribution to our customers. Consisting of 17 distribution centres across South Africa, this department ensures that the packaged products are selected from the warehouses according to the delivery order, and are delivered to our customers who sell our products to the consumers for consumption.
Throughout the entire process we have a quality-assurance process by dedicated staff in the Quality Management and Research Department as well as each employee that handles the product, to ensure that every product that leaves our warehouse meets the very high standards we set at Distell.

The Business Improvement department is an internal support service responsible for collaborating with the business to drive process improvement projects resulting in sustainable business benefits, facilitating organisational business improvement target determination and performance tracking through the Distell Management Operating System and capability building with regards to methodologies and practices utilised in driving business improvement.

Our International department strives to expand our global footprint by increasing the distribution of our brands globally and investing in our drive brands in key markets. This is achieved by setting up market sales and marketing structures to support our products in our global offices.

The New Business Development department is responsible for expanding our global presence and establishing an international footprint. This department investigates new business opportunities on a global scale and is responsible for the integration of the new product or venture into Distell’s infrastructure.
