Our Company

Distell Group Limited is South Africa’s leading producer and marketer of fine wines, spirits, ciders and ready-to-drinks (RTDs). The Group is listed on JSE Limited. Distell employs over 4 200 people and has an annual turnover in excess of R7.9 billion.

We have a shared vision to create and maximise shareholder wealth through commitment to innovation and leadership in the markets where we operate.

Our key strengths are local market leadership, high brand awareness levels, an extensive distribution network, local market knowledge, strong trade relationships and the structural capacity to rapidly introduce new products across categories and channels. Good Corporate Citizenship:

Transformation is a drive focus for Distell as it continues to adhere to the principles of sound corporate governance. Distell serves on the steering committee of the Liquor Manufacturers’ and Distributors’ Charter and is represented on all its working groups, reviewing the entire manufacturing and distribution chain, from ownership and management to employee equity and skills development, procurement practices, enterprise development, as well as a number initiatives in public health and social investment. Environmental management is another key focus area where Distell undertakes to comply with all relevant legislation, reduce the impact of its production processes on the environment and prevent pollution by using best practices and technologies.

Corporate Governance:

Distell recognises that the implementation and maintenance of principles of sound corporate governance is core to protecting all our stakeholders, adding sustainable value to their relationship with the company. Consequently, we continually identify and establish ways of responsibly advancing relationships with stakeholders.

Corporate governance in Distell is managed and monitored by the company’s board of directors and several of its subcommittees. The directors are unreservedly committed to the principles of good governance and to this end accept full accountability to all their stakeholders in applying the necessary disciplines in maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, independence, fairness and social responsibility.

Transparency in the management process gives shareholders and other interest groups the assurance that the group is managed according to ethical norms and international best practice within the boundaries of prudently determined risk parameters. The board is of the opinion that the Group complies with all the significant principles incorporated in the Code of Corporate Practices and conduct, as set out in the second King Report (King ll) and the JSE Limited Listings Requirements.

Ethical Trading:

Distell is a founding member of WIETA (the South African Wine Industry Ethical Trade Association), and the living conditions on its farms meet the requirements of the WIETA code of conduct. The process of extending this compliance to all suppliers is at an advanced stage.

Our worldwide network:

Distell's South African distribution network consists of 20 depots situated in all regions of the country. In Africa, offices in Windhoek, Accra, Nairobi, and Johannesburg service the markets in Namibia, West, East, and Southern Africa, respectively. Joint ventures in Tanzania and Kenya and investments in Namibia, Zimbabwe and Mauritius create operating capacity as well as provide distribution facilities.
